EDP Propaganda [Conscription Prototype TG#0459]

ATTENTION, CITIZENS OF THE EUROPEAN REPUBLIC!

This pamphlet has been distributed to all males between sixteen and forty-five, currently occupying the networks in proximity of the Atlantic Ridge and the Post-Hungarian Border.

The time has come!  Our civilisation is on the cusp of the greatest accomplishment ever comprehended by humanity - and YOU will be a part of it.  The valiant forces of the EDP have endured ten years of hard, deeply felt conflict across the Campaign Zones which have scarred the edges of our glorious nation - but have brought clarity and discipline to the unruly settlements beyond.  Witness the terror of the enemy as they flee our superior weaponry and our unified cries of resilience which daunts their inferior savagery!  We will bring peace and security to the discriminated masses who have reluctantly toiled for their Eastern Overlords - reduced to barbaric depravity to which WE have the cure.

At Twenty One Hundred Hours GMT all capable men will be required to report at their closest military outpost or EDP Headquarters.  Anyone who avoids this mandatory draft, who has not produced official documentation proving physical or psychological disability, will face prosecution by the State regardless of race, sexuality or creed.

Take pride in the fact you will be present for the Final Push; the seminal moment in the history of our species where impurities will be eradicated from the face of our Planet and a ‘New Era’ will emerge.  Your grandchildren will look up in awe, as they realise YOU had the unwavering courage and patriotic aspiration to hoist the flag over the charred remains of our newly vanquished foe.

Beneath our New Order, seedlings will sprout and develop into lush greenery long since forgotten by our forefathers.  Mother Nature shall bow down to your might, and honour The European Republic for eternity in your name.

LONG LIVE THE FUTURE!

Unauthorised Civilian Account TG#002

Dear Dad,

I would have written sooner, but Mum says we must conserve paper.  I’m very sad since the blackout because now I can’t send you emails when I have feelings I want to share with you.  Mum is sad too, but I don’t think it’s about the electricity.  Yesterday I fell over in the darkness and lost a baby tooth, I was so pleased.  I ran to Mum to show her but she snapped at me saying she had “things to be getting on with”.  That’s what everybody says these days but as far as I can tell, they just sit there – a candle burning – and their heads in their hands.

Maybe I am being selfish.  I know you don’t want to hear about my problems when you are being so brave far away across the world.  Uncle Edward keeps telling me that the European Defence Program is recruiting every man above the age of sixteen to “do his duty” and claim what is rightfully ours.  He says I am too young to join, but he would be out there fighting alongside you if it wasn’t for his weak chest.  Before you think I’m avoiding my homework, they closed school early last week for an extended holiday.  I think the word used was “indefinitely”, how cool is that!  The teachers used to say my writing would “take me places” but for the last few months they seemed less hopeful.  Suddenly Maths was more important and they wouldn’t tell us why, I’m glad I don’t have to go back.  The only downside is they have issued a twenty-four hour curfew, and Mum keeps the curtains drawn ALL day long.  I took a peek underneath about an hour ago so I could describe to you what I saw in this letter.

Dad, I’m scared.  It is May and the Sun should be beaming through the fluffy white clouds you used to point out to me in the park forever ago.  Instead the sky was green, like the acid on the front of those mad science comics they sell at the corner shop.  I could see a line of helicopters in the distance and the horizon was black with endless smoke.  I saw no birds or cats, but Mr. Parkinson’s dog was sleeping in the garden.  Down the street I could hear screaming and men in uniform – like yours actually – dragging our neighbours out into the mist.  They started bullying Mr. Sain, remember the old guy in the wheelchair?  I could see he was in pain – it looked like he was choking on something – but still they stood around him behind large, black masks and pointed like he was some kind of interesting insect they had decided to torture with a magnifying glass.

These men aren’t forgiving or daring like you Dad.  They are gutless cowards who knock on our doors and mutter “government” instructions before pushing their way through.  On Monday they grabbed Mum by the hair and marched through the house, smashing things.  One told me they are saving us from “wasting energy” which could be used for military purposes.  They raided Mum’s jewellery box and one was saying things to her which I didn’t fully understand but I know it wasn’t right.  I tried to stand up for her but they pushed me back into a cupboard and I was trapped there for hours.  When Mum finally let me out the men were gone and she has refused to look at my face since.

I don’t mean to worry you but I feel something terrible is happening.  There was talk of a nu-clear hollow something before the televisions died and I don’t want anything to happen to you, no matter where on Earth you might be.  It will be hard getting this to you, but I’m sure I will find a way.  Until you return I shall stay strong for Mum, and ignore Uncle Edward who has been acting strangely these last few days.  He says he is building something in the cellar and that God will punish me if I go down there.  Anyway, I am waffling now and I hear what sounds like stomping approaching the house.  Maybe the soldiers have returned to tell us the War has been won?  I will go outside at last to play with my friends!

Thinking of you and a time when the Sun will shine again,

Billy

Potential Consistency Breach Specimen JD#001

Dear Billy,

I’m so sorry I won’t be there for your little sister’s birthday. Doing my duty and all that.

I don’t want to scare you Billy, but what is going to happen over the coming weeks and months won’t be pleasant. You’re an old enough lad now to know the possibilities of this fight.

It won’t be like anything you have ever seen, and your mum might seem a little more anxious than usual. Everybody will be the same though, and if we all stick together, they told us we’ll all be alright.

You’ve heard a lot about the EDP, I’d imagine. Well, I’m part of them, and we’re all going to be working hard together, just like you will be at home.

I’m under strict orders not to tell anybody at home this, but I’m sure you can keep a secret. There’s quite a high chance that they will use nuclear weapons. I’m not sure if you’ve learnt about these in school but they are very very powerful bombs. If ever you hear the air raid siren - and this is important - make sure you USE UNCLE EDWARD’S SHELTER. He probably hasn’t told you what he’s doing, but it’s to make sure that everybody is safe if one of these bombs goes off.

Don’t let anybody in through the door, even the neighbours, and please, please look after your mother and your sister for me. You’re a big boy now, so pl
